In July 2009, Phil L. Barringer was named President of TECO Guatemala and Vice President of Human Resources. He is responsible for all aspects of TECO Guatemala’s operations, including generation and energy sales, and Barringer is responsible for TECO Energy’s corporate human resources activities.
Previously, he served as Vice President-Controller, Operations, for TECO Energy since 2003. Before that, Barringer was Vice President-Controller for Tampa Electric. And prior to that, he held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility, including Assistant Controller, Director of Pricing and Financial Analysis and Director of Business Planning, since joining Tampa Electric in 1984.
Prior to his career with Tampa Electric, Barringer worked for Coopers & Lybrand as a staff auditor and held management positions in the banking industry for six years.
Barringer received a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Davidson College and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of South Florida. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of CPAs.
Barringer is a board member for the University of South Florida’s Stavros Center for Economic Education. Previous community involvement included serving as a board member of the Spring of Tampa Bay and as board member and then Chairman of the Board for The Tampa Connection, a leadership program affiliated with United Way.
Barringer is married and has two children.
