In July 2009, Dee Brown was named Vice President of Business Strategy and Compliance, and Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer. Brown leads the newly created Business Strategy and Compliance Department, which is responsible for Strategic and Business Analysis, Energy Policy, Corporate Compliance, Audit Services, Corporate Communications and Efficiency and Productivity Improvements.
Previously, she served as Vice President of Customer Service and Regulatory Affairs since 2006. In that role, Brown was responsible for customer service at Tampa Electric and TECO Energy’s regulatory activities for Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Florida Public Service Commission.
She joined TECO Energy in 1990 as an internal auditor in the company’s Audit Services Department. From there, Brown worked as an administrator in the Health Benefits section of Human Resources, developing and implementing strategies to reduce health care costs and providing financial support to other areas of the department. Between 1995 and 1998, Brown served as Director of TECO Energy’s Audit Services group, directing the company’s internal auditing function. In 1998, Brown became Director of Regulatory Affairs for Tampa Electric and, in 2001, she was appointed Vice President of Regulatory Affairs for TECO Energy.
Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Florida State University, and received a Master of Business Administration degree in Management from the University of South Florida, earning summa cum laude honors. She is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner.
Brown is active with several local community organizations. She serves on the regional board of Junior Achievement of West Coast Florida and on the board of directors for The Centre for Women. Brown has been one of the top fund-raisers in Tampa’s Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for breast cancer. She also is a board member for TECO Energy’s federal and state political action committees.
Brown is a Tampa Bay native and currently lives in Tampa.
