David E. Schwartz has served as Vice President-Governance, Associate General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of TECO Energy since 2007. He has held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility in the legal area since joining TECO Energy in 1992.
As Corporate Secretary, Schwartz leads a group responsible for corporate governance matters, including the company’s proxy statement and annual meeting of shareholders, meetings of the Board of Directors and its committees, insider trading compliance and reporting, matters involving the New York Stock Exchange, and the corporate administration for the company and all of its subsidiaries. Schwartz also provides advice with respect to SEC filings and other public disclosures, securities issuances, corporate transactions, investor relations matters, and the company’s director and executive compensation programs.
Schwartz received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Texas (at Austin). Prior to joining TECO Energy, he practiced law with the firm of Baker & Botts in Houston.
He has served as President of the Association of Corporate Counsel’s West Central Florida Chapter and as Chair of the Hillsborough County Bar Association’s Corporate Counsel Section. He is also active in the Society of Corporate Secretaries and Governance Professionals. He is admitted to practice law in Florida and Texas.
Schwartz is married and has a son and a daughter. He is an avid tennis player.
