It is the intent of TECO Energy, a holding company for Tampa Electric, TECO Coal and Peoples Gas, to provide a comprehensive benefits program to ensure the peace of mind and well-being of its team members. The following is a benefits overview. Details of health care benefits can be found on TECO Energy's Human Resources Website under Benefit Choices.
Two medical options are available for team members and eligible dependents. The plan you select will become effective the first of the month coinciding with or following your employment date. Depending on the plan selected there will be a nominal monthly premium for your coverage, as well as for dependents. The Company pays the major portion of these insurance costs. Periodic reviews and changes are made to these plans and team members are notified of any changes in advance. Currently a Choice POS II with a Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) and a Choice POS II with a Health Savings Account (HSA) are offered. The medical plan you select will become effective the first of the month following your employment date.
Prescription Drug Coverage
A prescription drug plan is included with all the TECO Energy medical insurance plans.
There are two dental options available for team members and eligible dependents: an indemnity plan in which you choose any dentist and an Exclusive Provider Plan (EPP) in which you must choose a participating dentist from a contracted list of dentists. The dental plan you select will become effective the first of the month following your employment date.
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs)
Health Care Account - This account is designed to cover your out-of-pocket health care and dental costs using pre-tax dollars for you and your eligible dependents.
Dependent Care Account - This account is designed to cover expenses for your eligible dependent children under age 13, elder care and disabled dependents of any age who live with you and are claimed as a dependent on your tax return.
Transportation Account - This account allows you to pay for employment related transportation and/or parking expenses with pre-tax dollars. This benefit is only available to you. Your spouse or dependent(s) are not eligible.
FSA Debit Card - This card is only issued if you have chosen an HRA with a Standard FSA. It can be used for all of your eligible dental, vision, prescription drug costs and over-the-counter drugs (OTC) expenditures. Once you have depleted the funds in your HRA, you can use the FSA dollars for eligible medical expenses. If you choose an HSA, you will not receive an FSA debit card for the Limited FSA.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential referral program that can help you find the resources you need to deal with a wide range of personal or family problems.
If you are in the Choice POS II with a HRA, you and your eligible family members are entitled to six contacts with an EAP counselor for each different set of problems that may occur. There are no charges for these consultations.
Group Life Insurance Plans
There are two parts to the life insurance plan, basic and supplemental. TECO Energy provides basic (company paid) at no cost. The coverage is one and one half times your annual base salary. The basic coverage is effective on the date of employment.
Supplemental (team member paid) may be purchased to meet the needs of your personal situation. You may purchase additional coverage of one to four times your annual base pay, up to a maximum of $1 million. You must enroll for this coverage. The supplemental coverage is effective the first day of the month following enrollment. You may purchase life insurance for your spouse and/or eligible dependents without purchasing supplemental life insurance on yourself. Coverage options for your spouse are $10,000, $25,000 or $50,000, but cannot be more than one-half of the team member's coverage (basic and supplemental combined). Coverage options for your eligible dependent children are $5,000 or $10,000.
The amount of your company-provided (non-contributory) coverage will automatically change on the first day of the month following any increase in your annual base pay. Supplemental coverage changes on the first of January each year and is based upon your salary as of January 1. There is a $2.5 million combined maximum for all of your TECO Energy life insurance plans.
NOTE: The amount of life insurance for any dependent cannot exceed 50% of the total amount of the team member's life insurance.
Long Term Care Insurance
Long Term Care Insurance covers expenses not insured by any medical plan is available to all team members and certain family members. The company provides a basic plan for every full-time team member. Higher levels of coverage with options are available for purchase.

Vision discount programs and a vision exam every 24 months are available with your medical ID card.
Retirement Savings (401k) Plan
Team members are eligible to participate in the Retirement Savings Plan upon receiving their personal identification number (PIN) following their first pay date, and will be automatically enrolled after 30 days of service unless they choose to opt out of the Plan.
You may contribute on a pretax or after-tax basis up to 50 percent of your applicable compensation. Applicable compensation is your total compensation (up to the government-imposed limits) as reported on your W-2 form, including pre-tax contributions you make to the Retirement Savings Plan, plus any pre-tax contributions you make toward your other benefits programs. However, applicable compensation will not include reimbursed expenses, excess life insurance premiums, proceeds from the sale of stock options, severance pay, moving expenses, stock-based compensation (other than stock-based compensation given in satisfaction of short-term incentive compensation payouts) or any forms of indirect compensation.
You may make changes to your contributions at any time by calling the Plan's toll-free number 800-752-5767 or on the Plan's web site at www.ibenefitcenter.com.
The company provides two matching contributions. The fixed match is $.60 up to the first 6 percent of participant contributions and is made each pay period. The annual performance match ranges from $.0 to $.40 (up to the first 6 percent), depending on company financial performance.
Retirement (Pension) Plan
If you are 21 years of age or older and have been regularly employed by the Company for at least one year, you automatically become a member of the TECO Energy Group Retirement Plan. The plan is designed to provide you with income during your retirement. Normal retirement age is your Social Security normal retirement age with early retirement available as early as age 50. You are fully vested in your accrued benefit after three years of plan service. The Company pays the entire cost of this plan.
Performance Sharing Plan
Performance Sharing Plan is a company-wide annual incentive compensation plan that links your success to the Company's success. When the Company achieves its goals, which are communicated to team members annually, eligible team members receive a percentage of their annual earnings (or in some cases their job market value) and share in the success of the company. Pay out usually occurs in January based on the previous year's performance.
Funeral/Bereavement Leave - Excused Absence
In the event of the death of an immediate family member you are allowed two working days with pay when your supervisor is notified. One additional day may be allowed if you are required to travel outside the company's service area. Immediate family members are husband, wife, children, brother, sister, parents, stepparents, grandparents, grandchildren, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law.
The company supports our community and its judicial system. If you are called to jury duty it is your responsibility to show your summons to your supervisor as soon as possible. This will allow time to plan work schedules. You are expected to report for work on days when your jury duty is not required. Team members will receive their regular pay while on jury duty and may keep any payment from the court system.
Leaves of Absence
A leave of absence allows you to be away from work for a valid personal reason. The company has specific guideline policies and procedures for medical, military and personal reasons. While you are not paid during such leaves, your re-employment is normally assured, not necessarily for the same position but a comparable one. Details of such leaves are available from your supervisor.
Sick leave is available for your own illnesses, as well as for certain family members. If you need to use this type of leave you must notify your supervisor immediately. While on such a leave, you can not accept employment or participate in any venture for pay or profit without prior approval of the Vice President of Human Resources. If you accept such employment without prior approval or if you do not return to work on the date your leave expires, you will be considered as having voluntarily resigned from the company.
Benefits During a Leave
Your group life insurance and medical and dental coverage may be continued during a period of approved leave. Your continuous service will not be interrupted for other benefits, such as vacation and retirement.
Long Term Disability Benefits
In addition to regular sick leave benefits, there is a planned program to protect your income in the event you remain ill or disabled for more than six months. Your disability protection begins on the first of the month following your employment date. This plan is provided at no cost to you. Eligibility for long term disability is available after satisfying specific requirements.
To ensure the well being and safety of you and your team members and to protect the equipment and facilities in which you work, the company maintains a proactive drug and alcohol policy. The company may perform drug and alcohol screenings for pre-employment, probable cause, post-accident and periodic testing. Where applicable, the company conducts random drug and alcohol screenings.
On the Job Accidents
If you or a team member are injured while at work, notify a supervisor immediately. You must make an immediate report of any injury or accident on the job, no matter how slight. The supervisor will arrange for any required medical treatment. The company will not approve any medical expenses incurred as a result of unauthorized medical attention.
You are eligible for 11 paid holidays annually: New Year's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and two Floating Holidays. The Floating Holidays may be taken anytime after completion of 6 months of employment. Team members who must help maintain continuous service to our customers may be required to work on a holiday. Those team members covered under a collective bargaining agreement should consult that agreement for specifics.
Vacation allowances are based on length of service as of December 31st of each year. You will be entitled to at least one week of paid vacation in the first calendar year after completion of six months of continuous employment.
Tuition Refund Program
Within specific guidelines, the company provides for reimbursement of certain expenses for both work-related and degree-required courses. For details contact the Tuition Refund Coordinator in the Human Resources Department.
The Company is affiliated with the GTE Federal Credit Union and the Florida Central Credit Union. Although the company does not endorse either credit union, direct payroll deposit is available to either credit union or your own financial institution.
