TECO Energy Wins Leadership Award
TALLAHASSEE, September 18, 2001
TECO Energy Inc. has won the Governor’s Business Leadership Award, one of only nine Florida companies to receive the honor.
The award recognizes companies for their economic and civic contributions. Gov. Jeb Bush announced the winners this week as part of Florida’s Industry Appreciation Week.
The award noted TECO Energy’s growth to more than 5,300 employees, its state-of-the-art combustion turbines and its donation of $1.6 million to community projects last year through the TECO Energy Foundation. TECO won the District 5 award.
Governor Bush commended the honorees for not only building successful businesses, but for sharing their success with their host communities.
“As our nation deals with an economic slowdown and the tragedies of last week, I am proud of the contributions and resilience of Florida’s businesses,” the governor said.
Besides TECO Energy, the other eight district winners were Aerospace Integration Corp., Tri-Eagle Sales, Tower Hill Insurance Group, Bombardier Capital, Paravant Computer Systems, The Shaw Aero Cos., American Custom Yachts and Corporate Express.
TECO Energy (NYSE:TE) is a diversified, energy-related holding company headquartered in Tampa. Its principal businesses are Tampa Electric, Peoples Gas, TECO Power Services, TECO Transport, TECO Coal, TECO Coalbed Methane, TECO Propane Ventures and TECO Solutions.
