News Release

TECO Energy names new director

TAMPA, January 30, 2003

Sherrill Hudson, Deloitte & Touche veteran, joins the board

TECO Energy today announced that Sherrill Hudson has been named to its Board of Directors. Hudson retired from Deloitte & Touche, LLP in August 2002, after 37 years of service. He spent the last 19 years in Miami as managing partner for South Florida, which included oversight responsibility for Deloitte’s Florida and Puerto Rico offices for most of that time.

Chairman and CEO Robert D. Fagan said, “We’re pleased to add Sherrill Hudson to our board of directors. With more than 500 audit committee meetings and many board meetings to his credit, we welcome a seasoned pro to our board, with extensive experience in auditing.”

Fagan added that TECO Energy has long been ahead of the curve in corporate governance. “For many years, a significant majority of our directors have been independent, and these independent directors have made up our already existing audit, governance and nominating, and compensation committees,” said Fagan.

Hudson is a Certified Public Accountant in Florida and Ohio. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He received his bachelor’s degree from Ashland University in Ashland, Ohio.

Known for his community service, Hudson’s past and present extracurricular activities include: past chair and executive committee, Florida International University Foundation; executive committee, Miami Business Forum; past president and board member, Orange Bowl Committee; past president, Zoological Society of Florida; past chair and board of governors, Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce; past chair, Dade Community Foundation, Jackson Memorial Foundation and American Cancer Society; member, Florida Council of 100; co-chair, United Way Miami-Dade County Campaign (1996); and vice chairman, Goodwill Industries of Miami-Dade County.

Hudson and his wife, Mary Ann, have three grown children and live in Coral Gables, Florida.
